Gentlemen,
The early duck season opens on Saturday, October 12. We will celebrate its arrival with a social shoot at 3pm on Friday and a potluck dinner at the Clubhouse. Cocktails at 6, per the usual, self-serve dinner at 7pm or so. It is potluck. Your game chairman will bring a batch of venison chili (courtesy of last year’s deer drives). Members are encouraged to bring an appetizer, side, salad, or dessert. Fish or game dishes, welcome of course. Please email me by Thursday morning, if you plan to attend either dinner or the duck hunters breakfast. We need a head count.
Saturday morning begins early. I will be frying eggs and bacon (or something related) before 5am. We will draw for blinds at 5:15. Shooting time is 6:27am.
I repeat, we will draw for blinds at 5:15am in the Clubhouse. You cannot sign up for blinds in advance.
Pete Steinle or I will be at the range beginning about 3pm on Friday for members who would like to tune up on a few clay birds.
A state-hunting license, Federal Duck Stamp, and Connecticut Migratory Bird Conservation Stamp are required to hunt waterfowl.
Everyone using the property must sign the new release form. Everyone who uses the Club’s facilities must fill out and sign the new release forms kept in the Clubhouse. This applies to all members, family, and guests.
Quack, quack,
Mike Fotos
for the Game Committee
P.S. We are expecting our first delivery of pheasants and Chukars on Friday, October 11. Members who wish to shoot birds from their personal accounts may reserve fields through the website and should confirm their bird release plans with Brad in advance (since it’s the beginning of the season). We do not yet have a date for the Martin Pond fall trout stocking. The water has been too warm. But, the warm water fishing (bass, pickerel, panfish) has been good (not great), so cast and blast is a possibility. Finally, our first Club release bird hunting is scheduled for October 19, which happens to be the final day of the early duck season. We will draw for Saturday morning blinds at the Clubhouse on Friday evening, October 18 (after the annual meeting).
